I’m Laurelin – international adoptee, eternal optimist, and world traveler!

Welcome to my blog, Uprooted Abroad!

I’m a recent college graduate with a degree in Environmental Studies and Community and Regional Planning, which (in a nutshell) means that I’d like to help create more sustainable cities around the world. To be completely honest I’m a total homebody, so when I’m not traveling I’m usually spending time at home in Iowa reading books, napping with my cats, or doing yoga!

Growing up in the Midwest, I always dreamed about exploring different cultures, visiting far away places, and meeting new people from all over the world.

I’m an international adoptee, born in China and raised in the United States, and in 2014 I had the opportunity to travel back to my home country and study abroad for an entire year. That experience helped me to redefine my relationship with China and my identity as an adoptee, and it also made me passionate about long-term travel.

Now as a recent graduate, I’ll be serving in the Peace Corps as an Urban and Regional Planning volunteer in Albania! Eastern Europe has always been high on my To-Visit list, and I can hardly believe that I’m actually going to be living there for the next two years!

I truly have no idea where this journey will take me, but I’m excited to find out! Thanks so much for sticking around for the ride!
